New doggy bed…

I have been steadily been plodding on with the patchwork pillowcase but the Easter holidays have taken over. We are going away for a few days and a new doggy bed was in order. With an old duvet and cover, here’s Jade’s new bed. It is actually quite big-she’s a big dog! The next one I make will certainly be even bigger but this will be perfect for travelling in the back of the car and whilst we are away.

…camera-shy but happy pooch! (budge up a bit Jade, yer backside’s hanging off the side!)

The weather forecast isn’t good but we will be making the most of what we have… if it snows we will build snowmen or igloos depending on how much! If it rains we will splash in puddles! Who cares-we are on holiday. I will deal with the washing when I get home;-)

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter, whatever you get up to. See you soon. x

The last week of the crochet along…

I have really enjoyed reading Cassie’s fun filled tutorials and even more, making my own pillowcases. Have a look at the last part…the bit we were all waiting for! Crochet edges on You go girl!

I have actually learnt how to paper piece the Old English way and touched on quilting. Neither was at all difficult but I can imagine a whole quilt taking a long time!

I am no where near finished yet but here’s where i’m up to …

pillowcase 001

…The front is all pieced and has boarders. I need to do a little embroidery to quilt, trim it and then put it together. We are getting there. I missed the end of the crochet along but nevermind. Take a look at the photo pool on flickr for some more versions 😉

It’s grown!

It’s taking some time but the hexagon part is finished now. There are hundreds of tiny hand stitches in this, I don’t know if you can see them on the pictures.

I am going to add strips around the edge to make a boarder until it’s pillow sized. Then on to acutally sewing a pillow. As for the chocolates, hmm I had more than my share – ooops! He he!

I am a long time behind the crochet along, not to worry. Here’s part 3 where you can add a blanket stitch around the open edge, ready for your crochet. I’m really looking forward to getting on to that bit!

This is the turtle that I was making for little man. He’s a bit cock-eyed in places and he needs beady eyes yet. I have to add that he has been stolen from my sewing bag on more than a few occasions!

That deep scratch in my leather sofa was caused by a toy car. DEEP BREATH – COUNT TO 10! It’s only a sofa. An old one at that.

I’m off to do some cooking and play with aeroplanes now. Catch you all later. x

Happy Mother’s Day

It makes my heart sing to see little hands making such arty pictures. Fantastic!

Thank you Little Man. xxx

I don’t know what we are up to for the rest of the day. I’m sure it will be fun.

To all you mums out there, hope you have a great day too.

Patchwork paper pieces

I have been mean in the blogging dept lately. Sorry about that.

My camera fizzled out and doesn’t play ball anymore. A rather nice person from the local recycling group gave me another, it’s only 1mp but the pictures aren’t too bad. It’s a very old one, large and heavy man! No complaints, just large muscles! – At least we have pictures 😉

I have been learning how to do patchwork paper piecing. Here is the evidence! This is going to be a turtle cushion for the little fellow. He has been watching me stitch it all by hand.

What should (if I had a normal hand), take about a quarter of the time that I have taken.
I can only do a few minutes at a time unless I want a lot of pain for the rest of the day. It’s infuriating. I want to get going with it…..

This is going to be my pillowcase for the crochet along. I’m aware that i’m running well behind schedule but never mind. I really wanted to patchwork it and it makes me happy to know that I will get there in the end! You will find part 2 lots of fun, making the pillowcase itself.

I have been taking many long walks with the dog to walk off the winter podge. It gives me a lift, being out in the open – almost as much as sewing does!

On the edge with a crochet along…

Cassie from You go girl! is hosting a crochet along for those neat handmade edgings that you see on pillowcases. I am joining in, although it might take me longer since the hand is still healing. I can hang onto a crochet hook so that will do me!

Look here for the first week’s instructions…….chocolates-gotta get the chocs! Oh yeah, what else did Cassie say to have?!?

I found this how-to on thread banger by Cal Patch. Pretty awesome!

Let’s get hookin’…
